Getting Started

I asked some bikers at work and the consensus was to take a Motorcycle Safety Foundation class. It was one evening of classroom instructions and 2 afternoons of riding around a parking lot. It was definitely worth it. They had a bunch of small displacement bikes. I rode a 250 Rebel the first day and a 250 Nighthawk the second day. Both were really easy to handle. I think everyone passed the riding test, which replaces the DMV driving test.

The class was good, but only taught me to ride around a parking lot. It didn't really prepare me to ride on the street. I guess they have liability and insurance issues, but it would have been great for the instructors to take the class out for a group ride at the end.
